建立完成台灣第一座永久性地磁觀測台，取其地名為崙坪地磁觀測台，於54年5月開始正式觀測，隨即加入國際地磁及高空物理協會（International Association for Geomagnetism and Aeronomy，簡稱IAGA）之世界觀測網組織，已成為世界上不可缺少之地磁觀測台
